In 2016-17, Coach Joe Huff enters his fourth season with Hall of Fame head coach Phil Mathews.
A native of San Bernardino, Huff is in his 13th season at Riverside City College (RCC) and 23rd season of coaching at the collegiate and/or high school level. His primary coaching responsibility lies with the post players and assisting with recruiting efforts.
Since his arrival in 2004, Huff has helped lead the Tigers to four Orange Empire Conference (OEC) championships (2005, 2007, 2010, 2011), nine postseason berths, five 20-win seasons and the 2009 state championship, the College’s first in 43 years since Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Tarkanian accomplished the feat in the 1960s (1964-66).
Before his arrival at RCC, Huff began his coaching career at Pacific High School in San Bernardino where he helped lead the program to three California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) semifinal games and its first CIF championship game, as well as several San Andreas League titles (1996, ’97, ’98, ’99, and 2004). Huff has also served as an assistant coach at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) where the program posted a 106-51 overall won-lost record and also helped SBVC to a state tournament semifinal appearance in 2003, its first state tournament berth since 1956 and several Foothill Conference crowns.
As a player, Huff played basketball and baseball at SBVC. He is married to the former Sonya Hansen. They have one son.
