Men's Track and Field opens Conference against Saddleback and Golden West

The Riverside Men's Track and Field team opened their conference schedule against Saddleback College and Golden West College this past Friday at RCC.  The men dominated their conference foes beating Saddleback 135-25 and beating Golden West 143-17.  The throwing events led the way this week in the conference opener with five A standards.   Kyle Jenkins (San Gorgonio HS) hit 49'11.25 in the shot put and 168' in the hammer, putting him at 4th and 1st respectively in the state.  While Jordan Davis (Elsinore HS) threw 48'6.25" ranking him 5th in the state in the shot put.  The final two A standards came in the Javelin where Chad Ponciano and Keegan Wiekamp-Huete (Alta Loma HS) threw 194'10 and 188'1 which places them 1st and 2nd in the state. 

"I was really pleased with how the team competed against Golden West and Saddleback.  We had some nice surprises with Luke Vickers (Arlington HS) running a personal best in the 5000m with a 16:01.  Also, Chad Ponciano and Keegan Wiekamp-Huete throwing big personal best in the javelin and earning the top two spots in the state at this point." The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday, March 4th, when the take on UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine at RCC.
