It was voted on by the Riverside City College Athletics' Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) that freshman Natalie Escher (Redlands, CA) of the women's volleyball team and freshman Enrique Villa (Riverside, CA) of the men's cross country team were named November Athletes of the Month by S.A.A.C. team representatives.
In order to be nominated for S.A.A.C. Athlete of the Month, a student-athlete must display an exemplary attitude both on and off their respected playing field. They must perform well in the classroom and in competition while always representing Riverside Athletics in a positive manner no matter what setting they find themselves present.
Escher earns the recognition after completing a phenomenal inaugural campaign with the Tigers. Escher patrolled the backline for Riverside throughout the entire season by playing in all but one contest. She landed in double-digit digs 19 times on the season highlighted by a whopping 39 digs in a four-set win over Victor Valley. She began the season on a tear by recording double-digit digs in the first 11 matches of the season. She recorded 20 or more digs in six contest as well. She finished the season with 384 total digs which ranked second in the OEC. Furthermore, she ranked second in the conference in digs-per-set with 4.47. She chipped in 23 services aces and 27 assists as well.
Villa is recognized after being tabbed as one of the strongest runners in the state in his first-career season with Riverside. Villa's accomplishments include being named the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Runner of the Year after snapping the tape at the OEC Championships. He was named an All-American after placing fifth overall at the state championships. Additionally, Villa earned two second-place finishes on the season as well.
