Riverside faced off against the San Diego Mesa College Olympians this Saturday for their final non-conference game of the season. The Tigers rolled past the Olympians, 49-21, and pushed their record to 4-1 overall. Stone Smartt construct a solid performance as he went 13-for-22 through the air leading to 257 yards and four touchdowns. He located four different targets through the air as Tyrone Marshall, Melquise Stovall, Jammal Houston, and DeaQuantae Showers each reeled in a receiving touchdown. Marshall lead the group with three catches for 86 yards. Malik Walker and Quincy Wimbish each broke off long touchdown runs and combined for 146 rushing yards. Christian Swint and Ajhon White paced the secondary with an interception each, while Jose Ramirez and Kobey Fitzgerald lead the team with six tackles each.
Riverside enters their bye week this weekend, but returns to action on Saturday, October 13 at home against the Grossmont College Griffins in Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Southern Division competition.
The Tigers went 3-1 over the weekend in the Cuesta Rabobank Invitational. They earned victories over Long Beach, Cuesta, and San Joaquin Delta, but fell to Santa Barbara. Their victories were highlighted by a 14-13 double-overtime thriller against San Joaquin Delta. Freshman Hannah Peercy paced the team with four goals in the contest to mark a season-high and career-high. Furthermore, she recorded an assist and swiped a pair of steals on the defensive end. Sophomore tandem Kate Fox and Nikkol Webber continued to be an electric presence by firing home three goals each. For Fox, she has now recorded 40 goals on the season which paces her squad. Freshman Patricija Ostarcevic was the main facilitator by dishing out a trio of assists. She also hummed home a pair of scores and pocketed two steals. Freshman Madison Button patrolled the cage and hauled in a season-high 13 saves through six quarters of action. She also earned three steals in the victory.
Riverside returns home on Wednesday, October 10 for an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) showdown against the Cypress College Chargers.
Riverside pushed their winning streak to three in a row with a three set victory over the Santa Ana College Dons on Friday night. Sophomore Julia Balancier continued to perform at a high level by recording 19 kills leading to a .381 hitting percentage. She has now hammered home double-digit kills in four-straight matches. Additionally, she added 10 digs and a pair of block assists. Sophomore Kiara Oregon notched seven kills, while freshman Vashti Elias-Romero and sophomore Madison Bogh chipped in three kills each. Sophomore Taylor Gardner ran the offense with 21 assists.
The Tigers competed in the 2018 CBU Joust Invitational and defeated Division II Mercyhurst University by the final score of 13-9. Sophomore Alexis Gutierrez paced the team with four goals, one steal and two drawn ejections. Norbert Kovacs fired home two scores and drew a pair of ejections, while freshman Ethan Saenz chipped in a score and drew two ejections. Freshman Leonardo Monges earned the victory after recording nine saves.
Riverside continues action Friday, October 5 by hosting the RCC Tournament. They will face off against Grossmont at 9:10 a.m.
