ORANGE -- As expected, thanks to winning the the Southern California Preview Championship last Friday (Sept. 16), the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's cross country team has been ranked No. 1 in the state in the latest California Community College Men's Cross Country poll, which was released Thursday (Sept. 22).
Riverside City finished ahead of 31 other teams in a race which was hosted by the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.
Riverside City had racers finish second, 12th, 16th, 18th and 25th to tally 73 points, easily outdistancing second-place Cuyamaca (100 points), third-place Mt. San Antonio (111), fourth-place San Bernardino Valley (113 points) and fifth-place Glendale (132).
Ranked after Riverside in the poll are second-place Mt. San Antonio College, third-place Cuyamaca College, fourth-place San Bernardino Valley College and fifth-place Hartnell, the top-ranked team in Northern California.
"This is the first time since 1994 that the Tigers are ranked first in the state in cross-country," revealed 11-year RCC head men's cross country coach Jim McCarron, "and that was the last time they won the state title in cross country."
