The RCC Lady Tiger finished 3rd at the California Community College State Track & Field Championships
The RCC Lady Tiger finished 3rd at the California Community College State Track & Field Championships on Saturday May 18, 2013. The competition started on Friday morning with the 10k.
Valerie Acevado took full advantage of getting an at large bid on Monday with place 4th in the event and setting a personal record (PR) with a time of 38:28.43. Acevado also came back to place 5th in the 5k with a PR with a time of 18:24.87.
Also on Friday, National Record holder Jessika Byrd won the Hammer throw in an impressive 195'11 which set the Meet record in the process.
The Tigers continued to receive major points in the throws with Hailey Erickson finishing 6th (42'10) and Fatima Vagara finishing 5th (43'5) in the Shot Put. Vegara also threw a lifetime best in the Discus, winning the event by over 10 feet with a throw of 150'0.
The lady Tigers also received points in the Triple Jump- Joshulyn Penniman (7th), High Jump - Penniman (4th), Jessica Giacoletti (3rd), 400m- Shiloah Williams (7th), 4x400m relay (4th) and Heptathlon - Taylor Coffelt (4th).
Overall, the Lady Tigers had 2 individual champions and 10 All-Americans with only taking 13 ladies to the state meet. Cerritos College won the meet with 91 points, Laney College was second with 81 points, and the lady Tigers finished third with 59 points. I am really proud of the hard work the ladies have committed to all year long on the track and in the class room. State Meet results can be found on Directathletics.com and norcalstat.com.
