Bio

Sammi Wellman was named the Director of Sports Information at Riverside City College in March of 2024 after holding a similar position at Citrus College (2020-2024). She also spent three years as the Director of Communications at the Cascade Collegiate Conference (one of the top conferences in the NAIA) and was the Director of Sports Information at California Baptist University for six years, where she helped the Lancers transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II and NCAA Division I.

In 2026, Wellman was honored as the 2YSIDA National Sports Information Director of the Year, presented annually to an individual who demonstrates excellence in athletic communications at the two-year level while making significant contributions to the profession and the colleagues they serve.

Wellman, who serves as the sole communications professional for RCC's 19-sport athletics program, is the voice behind the Tigers' incredible teams, managing game day media operations, maintaining accurate stats, promoting student-athlete success, and telling the stories of Riverside Athletics.

In addition to managing communications efforts for the Tigers, Wellman currently serves as the Second Vice President of 2YSIDA and is the Chair of the CSC U Committee, helping shape professional development opportunities for athletic communicators across the country. She also serves as the Orange Empire Conference men's golf SID, handling the stats and championship coverage throughout the season.

In 2017, Wellman was named a WoSIDA Woman to Watch and was selected as a recipient of the NAIA Women Leaders in College Sports Grant for the NCAA/Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement (IAA) in 2021, a program geared toward preparing women to improve work skills specific to athletic administration, develop strategies toward career advancement, network, and discover the best version of professional- and personal-self for each attendee. 


Wellman has experience at every level of collegiate athletics after having worked in sports information offices at CBU (Division I and II), Humboldt State (NCAA Division II), San Francisco State (NCAA Division II), and the University of Redlands (NCAA Division III). As an undergraduate, the former Sammi Sheppard interned in the sports information department at Azusa Pacific University (then of the NAIA).

The Torrance, Calif., native graduated from APU in 2010 with a degree in journalism after finishing her athletic career in women's soccer as a goalkeeper, where she helped the Cougars advance to the NAIA National Championship each year. She ranks second in the fewest goals allowed in a single season (three) and was the recipient of the Cougars' Champion of Character award her senior year. She also helped coach the Cougars for the 2010 season.

Wellman and her husband have a daughter and a son. They also have a Frenchie named Kobe. In her free time, Wellman likes spending time with her family, going to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and the San Diego Zoo/Wild Animal Park.
