Villa, Hollis Land on Podium at SoCal Previews

After dominating the Palomar Invitational this past week, the Riverside City College cross country programs were back at it this Friday morning by hitting the trails for the Southern California Preview in Central Park, CA. The men performed well by placing third overall against 27 other California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) members, while the women finished fifth overall in a field of 24 CCCAA competitors.

Men

Riverside continued to place in the top three by earning a third overall finish with a team mark of 21:57. The top-finisher came in the form of freshman Enrique Villa who placed second overall at a clip of 21:19.4. Villas picked up his second silver medal in just as many career races.

Sophomore Ricardo Cardenas, who placed first overall just one week ago, took 11th place with a time of 21:48.6.  Freshman Angel Campos was the third-highest finisher for Riverside at a mark of 22:03.6, landing him in the top-20 at 19th overall.

Women

The Tigers finished fifth overall amongst a tough field while clocking a team mark of 1:44.19. The time was just under a second away from placing in the top three. Sophomore Sarah Hollis paced the pack once again by finishing third overall after crossing the finish line at 18:58.6. It is her second podium finish in as many meets this season.

Sophomore Carissa Gomez finished just outside of the top-20 by earning an overall mark of 20:47.2. Sophomore Samantha Chapa rounds out the top-three Riverside finishers with a time of 20:51.5 to earn 25th place.

The Tigers will round out September action at the Golden West Invitational on Friday, September 22nd in Huntington Beach, CA. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
