Riverside Overcomes Adversity to Grab Fifth-Straight Win

No. 17-ranked Riverside City College had to overcome some adversity and ground out a 79-74 victory over Mt. San Jacinto College.

The Tigers improve to 8-2 on the year with their fifth-straight win, while the Eagles slip to 3-6 overall.

Jayden Miller was on fire for the Tigers, finishing with 22 points after only missing one shot in the game (7-for-8) and dished out six assists. Christian Warren followed with 16 points (5-for-13), while Deacon Toliver (6-for-8) and Andre Skelin (5-for-17) chipped in 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Skelin led the Tigers' rebounding effort with 11 boards for a double-double. Toliver was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine.

Riverside found itself trailing by as many as 12 points, but never stopped battling and saw momentum shift heading down the stretch after Skelin knocked down a big three to put the Tigers in front, 64-62.

Mt. San Jacinto kept things close and made it a one-possession game, 74-72, with just 30 seconds on the clock and called a timeout. The Eagles fouled to try to get the ball and slow down the clock, but Miller made both free throws before Corey Mitchell grabbed a crucial defensive board to help secure the victory for RCC.

The Tigers take on No. 22-ranked East Los Angeles on Saturday, tipping off at 2 p.m.
