Tigers Allow One Hit, a Two-run Home Run in First, and Lose, 2-0, to Allan Hancock
RIVERSIDE -- Allowing just one hit proved to be one hit too many as the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's fastpitch softball team lost, 2-0, to the visiting Allan Hancock College (AHC) Bulldogs in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 25) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).
Allan Hancock (10-3) starting RHP Katie Chenault socked a two-run home run to dead center field with two outs in the top of the first inning to provide all the scoring. From the circle, Chenault (10-2) made the runs stand as she scattered two hits and walked three, but struck out eight. Jessica Rothanzl drew a two-out walk to set the stage for Chenault's offensive heroics.
Riverside (7-4) was no-hitted until two outs in the bottom of the fourth when frosh C Selena Duran (Riverside / Arlington HS) doubled to the left-field fence. In the fifth, the Tigers alternated a pair of walks with a pair of outs before frosh 3B Breanna Valles (Riverside / Roosevelt HS) flew out deep to the center field fence.
RCC frosh starting RHP Bailey Powell (Riverside / Notre Dame HS) went the distance and allowed just the one hit, walked five and struck out nine as her record fell to 4-3.
Riverside will next play on Wednesday, Feb. 26, when it hosts the Orange Coast College (OCC) Pirates in an Orange Empire Conference (OEC) game at 3 p.m. Allan Hancock will hosts L.A. Valley on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m.
