Tigers Top Fullerton, 4-0
RIVERSIDE -- Exploding for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers women's softball squad went on to post a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) win over the visiting Fullerton College (FC) Hornets Friday evening (Apr. 11) at Brown Field (Evans Sports Complex).
Riverside City (24-9, 13-4 OEC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a RBI single by frosh Selena Duran (Riverside / Arlington HS). Fullerton fell to 18-17 overall, 6-11 in OEC.
In the sixth, the Tigers sandwiched a pair of walks around a pinch hit single by sophomore Austin Schmidt (Riverside / Notre Dame) to load the bases with one out. Frosh LF Michelle Paul (Norco / Norco HS) singled to center field to drive in one run, then Schmidt scored for a 3-0 lead when the center fielder overran the ball. After a walk reloaded the bases, frosh 2B Jessica Valenzuela (Rialto / Aquinas HS) lofted a sacrifice fly to left field for the final tally.
RCC frosh starting RHP MacKenzie Maxwell (Calimesa / Yucaipa HS) went the distance to improve to 11-3. She allowed only three hits (singles in each of the first three innings), plus two walks while striking out four. FC starting RHP Alyssa Felipe (11-11) also went the distance (six innings), allowed all four runs (earned) on five hits and eight walks with no strikeouts.
Riverside returns to action on Monday, Apr. 14, when it hosts the Mt. San Antonio College Mounties in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
