RCC pounds Saddleback by committee
MISSION VIEJO (9-15-2012) – Quarterbacks Tyler Shreve and Zach Adkins combined for 284 passing yards and four touchdowns Saturday in a 51-13 non-conference victory at Saddleback. The two took turns shredding Saddleback's vulnerable defense in tag-team fashion. Wide receivers Devonn Brown and Kendall Hunter caught a 76-yard and 72-yard touchdown pass respectively, and freshman kicker Tyler Rausa contributed three field goals and six PATs.
The Tigers are now 2-1 after the blowout, and Coach Tom Craft will lead his team into conference play starting next Saturday at home against LA Harbor at 6 p.m.
After jumping out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, RCC upped its scoring in the second quarter with 21 points. Brown's 76-yard touchdown reception from Adkins with 8:49 remaining in the quarter highlighted the Tigers charge. Chayz Holt recovered a blocked punt in the Saddleback's end zone to close the first half with 0:23 left. Saddleback managed to sandwich two field goals between six plays for 135 yards from RCC. Saddleback hopelessly trailed 34-6 at intermission.
In the second half, the Tigers eased up a bit only scoring 13 combined points in the third and fourth quarters; however, the RCC defense remained relentless. The Gauchos scored their only touchdown when Jake Geringer found Exavier Edwards-Ford for a 16-yard touchdown pass with 6:47 remaining in the game. Running back Devon Dozier ran a 48-yard touchdown with just over a minute to play to finalize the game score.
Holt and Ryan Coleman led the Tigers defense with six tackles each, and Paul Senn registered four tackles. Ofa Fifita, Andre Myles, Frazer Taua, and Daniel Fusi finished the contest with 3 tackles each. Desman Carter and Tray Hall each had an interception.
