Bio

Darrin Chiaverini is in his fourth season as the Tigers’ Assistant Head Coach / Recruiting
Coordinator/ Receiver Coach/ Speical Teams Coordinator. A graduate of Corona High School, Coach Chiaverini attended the University of Colorado and eventually was drafted into the NFL. His senior year at Corona High School, Chiaverini led the state of California in catches with 88. At Colorado, Chiaverini was the first winner of the university’s Buffalo Heart Award, which is now given yearly to the player best exemplifying Colorado football.

In 1999, he was drafted in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns, setting a rookie receiving record with 44 catches for 487 yards and four touchdowns. After two years with the Browns he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys before eventually finishing his four-year NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons. His NFL career included 62 catches for 662 yards and seven touchdowns. He concluded his professional career as a member of the Austin Wranglers of the Arena Football League.

Chiaverini became an assistant coach at UCLA, working with special teams' Coach Frank Gansz before moving on Mt. San Antonio College. Coach Chiaverini also coordinates special teams for the Tigers and has had the top punt returner in the state for the past two years.

He holds a degree in communications from the University of Colorado and a master’s degree in Human Performance and Sport Sciences from the University of New Mexico Highlands. Chiaverini is married to Shannon and has two children – Curtis and Kaylie.
