Tigers Take Second at SoCal
Riverside City College took second overall at the 3C2A SoCal Championship on Saturday, finishing with 132 team points. Mt. San Antonio College won the event with 178.5 points.
Orlando Collins won the 400-meter race in 47.53 seconds. Jared Schulte followed in third in 48.36 seconds, while Lance Durazo posted the fourth-best time of 48.45 seconds. Ryan Babino took ninth with a time of 49.04 seconds. Collins also took eighth in the 200-meter with a time of 21.77 seconds.
Omar Sanchez won the shot put with a mark of 15.66 meters, which he hit on his third attempt in the finals. Damion Ortiz followed in third with a throw of 15.27 meters, while James Padilla took fifth at 14.66 meters. Jace Collins (eighth, 14.42 meters) and Aydeen Nava (12th, 13.47 meters) rounded out the Tigers in the shot put.
The Tigers won the 4x400 relay by .06 seconds. Riverside finished in 3:11.52 to just edge out Mt. SAC at 3:11.58, closing out the meet with a thriller.
RCC saw five Tigers finish in the top 12 of the discus, with Joey Garcia taking second overall with a mark of 46.85 meters. Padilla took sixth overall (45.28 meters), while Kyle Amaral followed in seventh with a mark of 45.08 meters. Jace Collins grabbed 10th (42.86 meters), and Sanchez took 12th (41.37 meters).
Zolan Frank led a trio in the hammer throw, finishing runner-up with a toss of 51.89 meters. Sanchez took seventh at 45.75 meters, while Lorenzo Smith followed in eighth at 44.16 meters.
Alex Wesolowski grabbed second in the 1500-meter race, posting a time of 4:01.20 to just beat out third place by .01 seconds. Martin Sandoval followed in sixth place with a time of 4:02.22. Sandoval also posted a time of 2:11.77 in the 800-meter race to take ninth.
Matthew Lollino posted a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 10.40 seconds.
Aden Johnson took third in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.96 seconds. Michael Ferro (15.95 seconds) and Ryan Watson (16.15 seconds) also finished in the top 10, taking eighth and ninth, respectively.
Ahkil McClellan finished third in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 53.45 seconds, while Johnson took sixth in 54.08 seconds.
Jacob Sayed grabbed fourth in the pole vault, hitting 4.35 meters on his final attempt.
Edward Moody took sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters.
Mateo De La Parra took seventh in the javelin, hitting 47.67 meters on his fifth try. James Henderson followed in 10th with a mark of 42.84 meters.
Luis Mier grabbed eighth in the 5K, posting a time of 15:22.19, while Joshua West wasn't too far behind in 10th with a time of 15:33.44. Diego Tierrafria clocked in at 15:45.17 to the 17th overall.
Kameron Hawkins cleared 13.99 meters to take ninth in the triple jump.
Dyeem Tolbert finished seventh in the 3K steeplechase, clocking in at 10:03.36.
RCC heads to the 3C2A State Championship next week on Friday and Saturday at Mt. SAC, hoping to defend its 2025 crown.
