McCarron Named OEC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year
Riverside City College men's track and field head coach Jim McCarron took home Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year honors for the 17th straight year.
McCarron continues to lead the way for the Tigers as one of the state's top programs, leading his team to its 18th straight OEC title.
The Tigers had 25 individual winners at the OEC championship, scoring 507 points to separate themselves from the rest of the field by nearly 400 points. It was the second-highest point tally in OEC history as well.
A trio of track and field athletes earned OEC Player of the Year honors as well. Orlando Collins earned the Track Athlete of the Year. Omar Sanchez earned Field Athlete of the Year. Finally, James Henderson earned the Multi Athlete of the Year.
Henderson finished atop the Decathlon standings with 5,693 points. Placing first in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault and javelin throw. Collins finished first in the 400- and 200-meter dashes, and Sanchez led the way in the discus throw while finishing just behind in second place in hammer throw and shot put.
McCarron's squad gets set for the State Championships this weekend at Mt. San Antonio College.
