Bio
CJ Alumbres joined the Tigers coaching staff in the fall of 2019 as the jumps coach for the track & field program.
During his time with the Tigers, he has coached 16 OEC conference champions, two SoCal Regional champions, and two state champions.
In 2025, he guided Bryson Williamson to a successful high jump season, becoming the OEC conference, SoCal Regional and 3C2A state champion. At SoCal Regionals, he jumped a personal best of 2.10m (6’10.75”). He became the first ever male athlete to win the high jump state title for RCC. On top of that, RCC’s men’s team ended the 2025 season winning their eighth 3C2A state title.
During the 2023 season, he led Darius Hill to becoming the OEC Men’s Field Athlete of the Year after becoming conference champion in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Later that season, Darius also became the SoCal Regional long jump champion, jumping 7.30m (23’11.5”) and ended his season as the 3C2A state champion with a mark of 7.56m (24’9.75”). Darius finished off his time with the Tigers with personal records of 2.11m (6’11) in the high jump and 7.66m (25’1.5”) in the long jump.
The Groton, CT native attended Fitch High School for one year, where he won the Class L State Championship in the triple jump as a freshman. Alumbres and his family moved to Murrieta, CA where he attended Vista Murrieta High School. He currently holds the school record in the triple jump at Vista Murrieta with a jump of 50’1.25”, won back-to-back CIF titles in the triple jump in 2014 and 2015. He helped the Broncos win their first track and field state championship title in 2015.
Alumbres graduated from UCLA in the spring of 2019 with an undergraduate degree in sociology. He was a triple and long jumper for the Bruins and has a best of 7.09m (23’3.25”) in the long jump and 15.67m (51’5”) in the triple jump. He was the triple jump runner-up in the 2018 PAC-12 Championships. Alumbres also has an M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine and is currently pursuing a single-subject teaching credential in Physical Education.
