Forty Tigers Qualify for So Cal Finals
The Tigers entered the So Cal Prelims as the number one ranked team in the state. With 30 mph winds RCC went to Antelope Valley with one goal in mind, qualify as many Tigers as possible to the So Cal Finals on May 11. With all the teams in Southern California represented the Tigers did just that, qualifying at least one person in 19 of the 21 contested events. In the 110 HH RCC took 4 of the 9 qualifying spots, and in the 400IH they earned 5 of the 9 spots! In the 800m the Tigers earned 4 of the 9 spots, and in the shot put RCC got 7 of the 12 in. Overall, forty RCC Tigers qualified to the So Cal Finals, most in the college's history. The 10,000 meters was a final, and John Guzman easily won with a time of 31:47. The Decathlon was also a final that was run on April 9-10, and RCC took the top 3 spots (Jordon Morris, Chris Navarro and Phillip Baily), a first in California Community College history. Next week the Tigers will travel to Antelope Valley for the So Cal Finals where the top 4 in all sprint, relays and hurdles and the top 6 in all other events will qualify to the State Championship in San Mateo on May 17-18.
