Riverside Remains Unbeaten with Win Over Grossmont
No. 2-ranked Riverside City College faced its first ranked opponent of the season and battled out a 9-6 victory over No. 22-ranked Grossmont College.
The Tigers improve to 7-0 on the year, while the Griffins drop to 3-3 overall.
Luis Sosa led RCC with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Johnny Alley (2-for-5) and Luke Medure (2-for-3) each had two hits, while Josh Chairez (1-for-2), Darin Osterloh (1-for-1), Josh Hartman (1-for-3), and Dean Loyd (1-for-1) also knocked hits for the Tigers.
Riverside struck first and held a 5-2 lead after four innings, but Grossmont put together a big top of the sixth and scored four runs to take the lead.
The Tigers loaded up the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Chairez to sacrifice a fly ball to score Darin Osterloh to tie the game, 6-6.
RCC took back the lead in the bottom of the seventh after Loyd drove in two runs with a base hit to left center, followed by an RBI bunt single by Sosa, giving the Tigers a 9-6 lead.
Chris Romo picked up the win on the mound for Riverside, while Austin Torres grabbed a save.
The Tigers hit the road for a pair of games, first heading to San Diego Mesa College on Friday for a 1 p.m. contest before taking on the Griffins again on Saturday, also at 1 p.m.
