Bio
David Martinez returned to the RCC baseball coaching staff in 2022.
Since Martinez’s return to RCC, the Tigers' pitching staff has been one of the most feared in the state. In his five years leading the Tiger rotation once again, RCC has produced three Orange Empire Conference Pitchers of the Year. Most recently, RCC had back-to-back conference pitchers of the year: Jorge Rodriguez won in 2026 and Jake Valenzuela in 2025.
Martinez’s last stint with RCC lasted two years before he accepted the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator position at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas, but not after the Tigers captured their fourth state title. While at UNLV, he guided the Running Rebels pitching staff for three years (2008-10) before taking on the same position with the University of New Mexico Lobos from 2011 & 2012. During both those years, the Lobos qualified for NCAA Regional play.
Martinez then accepted the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator position at Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State). During his three years there, the then-Red Storm earned NCAA Tournament berths in each season and won the Pacific West Conference championships in 2013 & 2014.
Shortly after, Martinez took on the task of rebuilding the program at Cal State San Bernardino as the Head Baseball Coach in 2015. He guided the Coyotes to an NCAA tournament berth in one of the two years at the helm. He then took on another pitching coach/recruiting coordinator position at Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2017.
Head Coach Rudy Arguelles on having Martinez back: “We are ecstatic to have David back home. His knowledge, experience and total awareness of the Tiger program and family is invaluable. Not only will our pitchers, but all will benefit from his teaching and mentorship abilities”.
David and his wife Saraya are the parents of two children, Andrew and Sofia.
