RCC Takes Second at Opening Meet
Riverside City College opened the 2026 season with a second-place finish at the Golden West Invitational on Friday.
The Tigers posted 581.5 team points, 24 points behind host Golden West College (605.5 points). Orange Coast College took third with 421.5 points.
Riverside opened with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of one minute, 37.64 seconds – just .5 seconds faster than OCC's relay team. The Tigers also won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:35.87 and the 400-yard free relay in 3:13.90.
Jared Ladinez won the 50-yard breaststroke in 26.74 seconds, while Davis DeAnda took second in 29.07 seconds. Adrian Thompson followed in ninth with a time of 30.77 seconds.
Ladinez also won the 100-yard breast in 58.06 – the only swimmer to break a minute. Xavier Potencion (1:06.60) and Thompson (1:06.72) followed in sixth and seventh, respectively.
Eli Martinez Spencer won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.50 seconds, beating out his competition by almost three full seconds.
Wyatt Miner won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:55.40, while Bryce Hitter took third in 2:04.95. Miner also posted the best time in the 100-yard IM (53.73 seconds), leading four Tigers in the top four spots. Martinez Spencer grabbed second in 55.30 seconds, while Aaron Ho took third (56.25 seconds) and Ladinez finished fourth (57.18 seconds).
Miner took also second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.41 seconds, while three other Tigers also finished in the top 10. Isaac Sheu took sixth (55.73 seconds), Hitter grabbed seventh (56.18 seconds) and Ho finished eighth (56.45 seconds).
Jeremiah Ireland and Sheu finished third and fourth in the 50-yard free with respective times of 22.47 and 22.49 seconds. Ireland also took second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:47.15 and second in the 100-yard free (48.55 seconds). Sheu finished fourth in the 100-yard free in 50.18 seconds, while Hitter took ninth in 51.05 seconds.
Vincent Fierro finished third in the 500-yard free, touching the wall in 5:02.99. He also took sixth in the 200-yard free in 1:53.59.
Riverside heads to its first Orange Empire Conference meet next week on Friday, with Saddleback College hosting the meet, set to start at 9:30 a.m.
