Tigers Dominate First OEC Meet
Riverside City College opened Orange Empire Conference with a dominant win, grabbing 722 team points to take first place.
The Tigers grabbed multiple first-place finishes to take the meet, while Golden West College followed in second place with 608 points and Orange Coast College took third with 485 points.
Zachary McDonald won the 3-meter diving board, scoring 184.88 points. Leonardo Davis took third with 103.50 points. McDonald also took second on the 1-meter diving board with a score of 190.65 points, while Davis finished fourth (121.95) and Alex Miranda grabbed fifth (113.10).
Wyatt Miner won the 200-yard individual medley in one minute, 56.74 seconds – almost seven seconds faster than his competition. Bryce Hitter took third in 2:04.29, while Jared Ladinez finished fourth in 2:05.73.
Miner also won the 200-yard butterfly, clocking in at 1:54.01 and finished runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.13 seconds.
The Tigers saw two swimmers tie for first in the 200-yard freestyle with Jeremiah Ireland and Eli Martinez Spencer both reaching the wall in 1:46.08.
Martinez Spencer won the 200-yard back in 1:58.03, the only swimmer to break two minutes.
Ladinez won the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.77 seconds, while Hitter followed in 1:01.23 and Xavier Potencion took third in 1:04.69. Ladinez also won the 200-yard breast in 2:08.68, while Hitter took third (2:17.16) and Potencion grabbed fourth (2:22.10). Adrian Thompson also grabbed a top-five finish with a time of 2:24.12.
Riverside went one-two in the 100-yard back as Isaac Sheu finished in 56.50 seconds to take first and Aaron Ho was right on his tail in second with a time of 57.78 seconds. Sheu also took third in the 100-yard IM, posting a time of 58.82 seconds.
RCC won the 200-yard free relay, clocking in at 1:26.96 and capped the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:35.97 – two seconds faster than last week's time.
Vincent Fierro took third in the 1650-yard free with a time of 17:39.17. Fierro also grabbed third in the 500-yard free with a time of 4:59.56, shaving three full seconds off his time from last week.
Ireland also took second in the 100-yard free with a time of 47.67 and finished fourth in the 50-yard free, touching the wall in 22.30 seconds.
Riverside hosts the Riverside Invitational next weekend at Crafton Hills College, with Friday's action beginning at 10 a.m.
