Riverside Starts OEC Championships in First Place

Riverside City College is off to a good start after the first day of the Orange Empire Conference Swim Championships.

The Tigers boast 282 points to sit in first after the first day, while Golden West College followed with 193 points and Cypress College sits in third with 190 points.

Eli Martinez Spencer won the 500-yard free with a time of four minutes, 32.76 seconds, shaving almost six seconds off his prelims time and setting a new school record in the process. Vincent Fierro also finished in the top 10, taking sixth overall with a time of 4:46.69.

Wyatt Miner and Bryce Hitter went one-two in the 200-yard individual medley, with Miner just edging out his teammate. Miner won the event in 1:52.85, while Hitter finished in 1:55.60. Jared Ladinez took fifth in 2:01.55.

Jeremiah Ireland led a group of Tigers in the 50-yard free, clocking in at 21.37 seconds to take fourth. Aaron Ho followed in fifth (21.65 seconds), Isaac Sheu took sixth (21.75 seconds) and Damion Montague finished in eighth (22.38 seconds).

Riverside won the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:24.16, beating its competition by a full second. The Tigers also won the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:22.71.

RCC looks to keep momentum building as it heads into day two on Friday.
