RCC Takes Second at Mt. SAC Invite

Riverside City College took second overall at the Mt. San Antonio College Invite on Friday and saw multiple athletes win their events.

The Tigers posted 803.5 team points, while the host Mounties won the event with 1288 points.

Jeremiah Ireland and Eli Martinez-Spencer went one-two in the 200-yard free with Ireland just edging out his teammate. Ireland touched the wall in one minute, 45.08 seconds, while Martinez-Spencer followed in 1:45.47. Ireland also won the 100-yard free with a time of 46.97 seconds.

Wyatt Miner won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:51.24, while Damion Montague also finished in the top 10 with a time of 2:18.63 to take sixth. Miner also won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.16 and he won the 100-yard fly in 49.70 seconds.  Aaron Ho took third in the 100-yard fly (53.24 seconds), while Isaac Sheu grabbed sixth (56.53 seconds) and Bryce Hitter finished in seventh (56.77 seconds).

Jared Ladinez grabbed first in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:05.28 for a personal-best time. Hitter took fifth in 2:16.49, while Davis DeAnda followed in sixth (2:17.21) and Xavier Potencion finished seventh (2:21.70).

Ladinez also won the 100-yard breast, touching home in 55.54 seconds, while DeAnda took third in 1:00.56 – both of which were season bests for the Tigers.

Hitter finished second overall in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking in at 4:22.57 – almost 7.5 seconds faster than his previous best time. Potencion and Adrian Thompson also finished in the top 10 with respective times of 4:50.53 (6th) and 4:54.86 (7th).

Ho posted a runner-up finish in the 50-yard free, clocking in at 21.80 seconds Ireland wasn't far behind in fourth with a time of 21.88 seconds, while Martinez-Spencer took eighth (22.40 seconds) and Sheu finished ninth (22.42 seconds).

Ho also took third in the 100-yard back with a time of 56.49 seconds. Youssef Abdelzaher followed in eighth place with a time of 1:10.02.

Anthony Ventura grabbed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:33.30.

Two Tigers finished in the top 10 of the 1650-yard freestyle, with Vincent Fierro taking sixth in 17:23.56 and Angel Martinez grabbing 10th in 19:30.95. Fierro also took sixth in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:06.28.

 

Riverside's 400-yard medley relay team won the event in 3:27.41, while the Tigers' 200-free relay team took second in 1:25.85, less than half a second behind first-place Mt. SAC.

Off the diving board, Zachary McDonald took second on the 3-meter board with a dive of 221.65 points. Alex Miranda followed in fourth (128.85), while Leonardo Davis took fifth (123.80).

McDonald also finished runner-up on the 1-meter with a score of 244.90 points. Davis took fifth (134.55) and Miranda grabbed sixth (127.60).

RCC shifts its focus to the postseason with the Orange Empire Conference Championship up first. The Tigers compete in the dive championship on Friday, April 10, before taking on the swim portion the following week, April 16-18.
