Men’s Cross Country Looks to Push Towards State Championships

After a third place showing in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regionals, the Riverside City College men's cross country team is set to compete for a state title at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA this Saturday.

Riverside looks to end its state championship drought with their last title coming in 2016 and placing second in 2017. They are ranked third overall in the state according to the latest coaches association poll and will look to ride strong momentum after winning their eighth Orange Empire Conference (OEC) title in the last 10 years.

Leading the way is sophomore Gavyn Condit who was recently crowned the OEC Male Runner of the Year after snapping the tape at the OEC Championships with a time of 19:58.91. His time was the lone mark under 20 minutes. Furthermore, he has landed top five in five of the seven meets highlighted by a trio of third place finishes and four total podium finishes.

Riverside has a tight pack behind Condit as sophomore duo Raen Reyes and Kyle Reden follow as top, complimentary threats. They were each named to the First-Team All-Conference list after a top seven finish at the  conference championships.

Reyes' best finish was at the Golden West Invitational as he crossed the finish line in fifth place. He also placed sixth in the OEC Championships. Reden hauled in the bronze medal at the OEC Championships to highlight his season efforts so far.

Riverside slightly missed out on a podium finish last year. They will look to get back on top of the podium beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
