Career High Marks Lift Tigers to Third-Straight Match Sweep

It was nothing short of a battle on Thursday night as the Riverside City College women's volleyball team played host to the Cerro Coso College Coyotes. After two hard-fought opening set wins, the Tigers found themselves down in the third set to make things difficult. Nevertheless, RCC clawed back from an 11 point deficit leading to a match sweep.

The Tigers controlled the opening two sets with scores reading 25-21 and 25-15. The third set was a grind, but Riverside strung together a 15-4 run that ultimately capped the match in straight sets. It is the Tiger's third-consecutive set sweep. 

The Tigers came out swinging and did not disappoint. Eight players earned at least one kill with freshman Maggie Aburto paving the offensive path.

Aburto, who has proven to be the Tiger's go-to weapon, did not record a single error and cashed in on more than half of her team-high 31 attempts. She hummed home a career-high 16 kills to land her in double-digits for the second-consecutive night.

Freshman Jessica Lepe backed her with a career-high seven kills to go along with eight digs on the defensive end. Freshman Ashley Elias-Romero earned her first career start and put an exclamation behind it with a career-high 10 digs. She added five assists and two aces in the process.

Freshman Chloe Christelman held the offensive reigns by recording a career-high 15 assists. Sophomore Hailey Gray followed with 10 assists, eight digs and three aces to prove her versatility.

Riverside (3-3) will continue action at home on Wednesday, September 15 at 6 p.m. against Victory Valley. Fans are welcome and a live stream will be available on Riverside Athletics YouTube channel.
