Tigers Take Second Set Against No. 11 Lasers, Fall in Four

It was a tall task for the Riverside City College women's indoor volleyball team as they played host to the No. 11 Irvine Valley College Lasers on Friday night in conference action. The Tigers were able to snag a second-set victory to make things interesting, but the Lasers got the best of the Tigers down the stretch with final set scores reading 14-25, 25-18, 20-25, 5-25.

The Lasers made minimal mistakes throughout the game, but the Tigers challenged them during the second and third sets. Riverside held them under .150 hitting percentage in the two frames, but the offensive prowess of the Lasers ended up being too hot to handle.

As a team, the Tigers hit below .100 which included two sets with a negative clip. Freshman Maggie Aburto paced the Tigers offensively with 12 kills to mark her fifth-consecutive match with double-digit kills. Sophomore Keeley Hober followed with eight kills, while freshman Jessica Lepe hammered home five.

Sophomore Hailey Gray lead with 17 assists, while freshman Chloe Christelman was one shy of double digit assists. She finished with nine.

Freshman Ashley Elias-Romero manned the backline for 13 digs marking a career-high. She added a service ace in the process. Freshman Kayla Brown had two services aces to lead the team.

Riverside (4-5, 1-2 OEC) will continue action on Wednesday, September 29 on the road against Fullerton. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
