Indoor Volleyball Caps Non-Conference Play with a Five-Set Win

The Riverside City College women's indoor volleyball team took a brief hiatus from conference play and traveled to face off against the College of the Desert Roadrunners in non-conference competition. The Tigers were gridlocked in a five-set thriller for the first time this season after trading sets throughout the entire match. Nevertheless, Riverside bared down and reeled in the victory with set scores reading 25-17, 16-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-13.

It was a blow-for-blow battle with the Roadrunners as the Tigers clawed their way to a victory. Each set seemed to become more and more challenging, but a formidable five-set mentality carried them through to a win.

The Tigers top threat, Maggie Aburto, missed her third-consecutive contest leaving the Tigers shorthanded on the offensive front. Nevertheless, the sophomore dup of Miranda Gates and Keeley Hober were there to pick up the pieces.

Gates acted as the main offensive brute with a team-high 11 kills on 40 attempts. Her 40 attempts acted as a career high while only making a trio of errors. She was the top point getter with 13 and currently ranks second on the team 90 kills.

Hober effected play on both sides of the ball which featured eight kills on a career-high 23 swings, while recording four blocks on the night. She was responsible for 11 points. She has accumulated 48 total blocks and has recorded a solo stuff or a block assist in all matches this season.

Freshman Rachel Harris tied her career-high numbers with seven kills and has now recorded at least one kill in six-consecutive matches. She tied for the team-high in blocks with six block assists. Freshman Jessica Lepe was clutch all around with six kills and a game high 16 digs and six service aces.

Sophomore Hailey Gray lofted up 23 assists in her eighth-straight start. Her mark acts as the season high and her seventh double-digit assists game in eight matches. Freshman Chloe Christelman followed with 12 assists and nine digs, while sophomore Molly Watson chipped in three.

Freshman liberos Mya Castro and Isabella Pelayo handled the defensive duties combining for 27 digs. Castro had 15 digs, while Pelayo recorded 12.
