Women's Volleyball Handles Business in Three Sets

The Riverside City College women's indoor volleyball team's season is nearing the end, but the team is putting together some of their best matches of the season. After a five set thriller just two matches ago, the Tigers put together their strongest victory of the season with a three-set win over Santiago Canyon.

Riverside went to work and didn't let up on the gas pedal as they boasted positive hitting percentages in each set. Their strongest set victory came in the second frame as they earned a .520 hitting percentage and won 25-6. They won 25-21 and 25-19 in the first and third sets, respectively.

It was no surprise that the Tigers were led by freshman Maggie Aburto. She finished with a game-high 14 kills on 23 attempts (.478 hitting percentage) accompanied by a career-high four aces and five digs. She has landed in double digit kills five out of the last seven games and 11 total matches.

Sophomore Keeley Hober followed with seven kills and a team-leading four blocks. She has recorded at least one block in every match this season. Additionally, she has recorded four or more blocks in 10 matches and has two or more blocks in all matches.

The setting duties were handled by freshman Chloe Christelman as she recorded a game-high 28 assists to mark her second-strongest output this season. She added two digs and one ace. Freshman Mya Castro led the back line with nine digs, while freshman tandem Jessica Lepe and Ashley Elias-Romero combined for 15 digs.

Riverside (7-14, 3-11 OEC) will continue action on Wednesday, November 10 at home against the Cypress College Chargers at 6 p.m. on senior night.
