Volleyball Challenges No. 10 Mt. SAC in Tight Spread, Falls in Three

Set spreads were close for the Riverside City College women's volleyball team as they played hosted to the No. 10 Mt. San Antonio College Mounties on Wednesday night in non-conference action. Despite a great effort from start to finish, the Tigers fell in three straight sets with scores reading 25-20, 25-20, 25-20.

The Tigers had their chances on multiple occasions with an offense that stayed in a positive hitting percentage all game. Their most efficient frame was in the third highlighted by a .209 hitting percentage. Mt. SAC was efficient as they barely dipped below .150 hitting percentage in all three sets. Featuring a strong .343 hitting percentage in the second set.

Sophomore swinger Maggie Aburto squeaked into double-digit kills with 10. She was effective on the backline as well with 11 digs, which was the second-strongest mark for the Tigers. She was responsible for 11 points. Sophomore Jessica Lepe led the team with 14 digs and contributed eight kills.

Freshman Paris Toaetolu had one of her strongest games at the net that featured five total block; one acting as a solo stuff. She had three kills as well. Freshman Audrey Elias joined her with four block assists as they were often linked at the hip when defending the net. She continued to run the offense as seen in 24 assists making the 12^th time this season she surpassed the 20 or more assist mark.

Freshman duo Lanah Bergen and Mya Castro each recorded two service aces to highlight their night. Castro bent down for seven digs as well.

From here on out, the Tigers will continue with Orange Empire Conference (OEC) action and will play Saddleback College on the road this Friday at 6 p.m.
