Tigers Take Silver in Marathon Match Against Olympians
Match Notes:
- RCC played well in preparation for the playoffs but came up short in a non-conference loss to San Diego Mesa College.
- Freshman Danny Garcia played a stellar match again in the #2 singles spot and picked up the "Eco Boost Award" with a dominating win, 6-1, 6-0.
- The Tigers fell in the #3, #4, and #6 spots to go down 1-3 before Jordan Gobatie battled back from a first set loss to take his match in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
- Sophomore Ulises Banos pulled the Tigers back to 3-all with a gutsy third set tie-break victory at #5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (6).
- The Tigers won quickly at #1 doubles but fell at #3 doubles to make the match 4-all.
- With Aliaksandr Pesniak injured (ankle) Gustavo Carvalho came into the #2 doubles spot. He and Banos battled back from 1-4 to make it 4-4 before finally losing the deciding match, 8-5.
- This match concludes the regular season for the Tigers.
- The Southern California Team Regionals seeding meeting will be held Sunday April 7th to determine the 8 playoff teams and seedings. Team playoff matches will begin Tuesday April 9th.
- RCC also looks forward to the Orange Empire Conference Individual Tournament on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday April 11-13 at Fullerton College. The quarterfinalists in singles and doubles will advance from the conference tournament to the Ojai Regional and State Championships.
