Glendale Steals Regional Victory from RCC
Riverside City College couldn't hold on in a 5-4 loss to Glendale College on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the 3C2A SoCal Dual Team Regional.
The Tigers end their dual season with a 15-4 record, while the Vaqueros advance with a similar 15-4 mark.
RCC swept the doubles part of the match with Mattias Almeida and Ethan Lee getting things going with an 8-3 victory. Charalampos Plataniotis and Vinicius Magin followed with an 8-4 win before Ronith Sreeram and Giovanne Recchia picked up an 8-5 victory to put the Tigers up 3-0 early in the match.
Needing just two singles wins to secure the team victory, the Tigers looked like they might get it as Almeida picked up a quick 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot.
Unfortunately for RCC, Glendale battled back and won the five other singles battles to walk away with the team victory.
The Tigers will take some time off before heading up to Ojai, Calif., for the 3C2A State Championship, where all three doubles and all six singles players have qualified to compete for a state championship. The championship begins April 23, with the champions being crowned on April 26.
