Tigers Grab Sixth-Straight Win

Tigers Grab Sixth-Straight Win

No. 2-ranked Riverside City College grabbed an 8-1 victory on the road at No. 5-ranked Santa Barbara City College Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers improve to 12-2 with their sixth-straight win, while the Vaqueros drop to 1-3 on the year.

Riverside swept the doubles competition as each pair grinded out their wins. Charalampos Plataniotis and Vinicius Magrin won 8-5, followed by Ronith Sreeram and Giovanne Recchia with an 8-4 victory. Matias Almeida and David Rose closed it out with an 8-6 win to put the Tigers up 3-0 early.

The Tigers carried momentum over into singles action as Magrin picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 win from Recchia to seal the team win for RCC.

SBCC managed to win one bout, but Plataniotis won his match 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot, followed by a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 battle from Rose and a 6-4, 6-4 victory from Sreeram to close out the game.

RCC resumes Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with a big rematch with No. 1-ranked Irvine Valley College. The last time these two teams squared off, the Lasers just edged out the Tigers 5-4, but Riverside looks to avenge the earlier loss at home.
