Tigers Top Mt. San Antonio, 8-1, Friday in Season Opener for Both

RIVERSIDE -- Gaining three individual wins by default, the 2017 Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers men's tennis team opened its campaign in fine fashion with an 8-1 non-conference victory over the visiting Mt. San Antonio College (MSAC) Mounties in the season opener for both at the Fran Bushman Tennis Courts on the RCC campus.

Riverside City (1-0 overall) received default wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, and went on to win the remaining four singles matches, allowing only 11 points in the process. RCC is ranked seventh in Southern California which mirrors last season's final ranking of seventh in the region. The Tigers also are ranked tenth in the state.

RCC also won at No. 1 doubles with freshman James Andra (Riverside / Arlington HS '16) and sophomore Trent Harris -- who is pictured -- doing the honors.

MSAC (0-1 overall) won at No. 2 doubles.

The Tigers return to the courts on Tuesday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Mt. San Jacinto College for a non-conference match which begins at 2 p.m.

Riverside City was 10-9 overall, 5-5 (fourth place) in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) in 2016 under then first-year RCC head coach Thomas Yancey, who is entering his second year at RCC with the coming 2017 campaign.
