Tigers Qualify Four Singles, Two Doubles Teams to 3C2A State Championship So Far

Riverside City College saw four singles and two doubles teams qualify for the 3C2A State Championship later this month, with one more still vying for a spot.

Angelina Capraro and Julianna Capraro automatically qualify as a doubles team since they are the No. 1 seed, while Herrera and Nikas won their qualifying match 8-3 to earn their spot in Ojai.

Individually, Nikas picked up an automatic qualifying spot as the top seed on the back draw, while Julianna Capraro grabbed two wins on similar 6-0, 6-2 wins to earn her spot in the tournament. Her sister joins her after defeating her opponents 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1, while Herrera only had to pick up one win to qualify and did that with ease, 6-0, 6-0.

Fleurdeliz Libutan will compete on Friday to see if she can join her teammates. The freshman takes on an opponent from Orange Coast College at 10 a.m. for the first round.

The 3C2A State Championship is set for April 23-26 in Ojai, Calif.
