Tigers Fall in First Round of SoCal Dual Regionals

Riverside City College couldn't hold off the College of the Canyons on Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the 3C2A SoCal Dual Team Regional, falling 5-3 in clinch play.

The Tigers finish the year with a 12-4 dual team record, while the Cougars advance to the next round with a 12-6 mark.

COC got an early advantage after winning two of the three doubles competitions to jump out to a 2-1 lead. Brianna Nikas and Victoria Herrera won their matchup 8-0 to keep things close for RCC.

The Cougars then won at the No. 2 spot to inch closer to the magic number of five, before Angelina Capraro picked up a win at the No. 3 spot (6-1, 6-4) to keep the Tigers in it, 3-2.

After Canyons took another singles bout, Nikas won her matchup 6-3, 6-3 to keep Riverside in the match 4-3, but the visitors picked up the win at the No. 1 spot to clinch the team victory.

Riverside takes some time off before heading to Ojai, Calif., April 23-26, where the Tigers will compete as individuals and doubles teams. RCC qualified five individuals and all three doubles teams for the State Championship.
