Women’s Basketball Starts Season with Two wins at Bakersfield Crossover

The Riverside City College women's basketball team kicked of their 2019-20 campaign this past weekend as they faced off against the Bakersfield College Renegades and the Antelope Valley College Marauders. The Tigers came out unscathed as they snagged two wins to kick their campaign off on the right foot.

GAME ONE
Riverside 66
Bakersfield 54

The Tigers held the Renegades to a mere three points in the final 10 minutes of the game to highlight the efforts. The forced 18 turnovers and shot 41.7 percent from the field and 31.6 percent from long range. Furthermore, they outrebounded Bakersfield 54-41.

It was a familiar face that torched the Renegades early as sophomore guard Trinity Vasquez picked up right where she left off last season. Vasquez hit the hardwood for 23 points and seven rebounds to highlight the Tiger's efforts. She went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc and made her way to the charity stripe 15 times on the night. She hit 10 of those free throws.

Freshman Rebecca London was a rebound shy away from a double-double in her Riverside debut. She finished with 11 points and nine boards, while freshman Regenus Gates followed with 10 points. She was also the main facilitator with five assists. Freshman Ariane Madlambayan was the most effective off the bench as she chipped in seven points and recorded seven rebounds.

GAME TWO
Riverside 76
Antelope Valley 58

It was sheer dominance for the Tigers as they routed the Marauders with ease. Three players landed in double-digit points Riverside shared the ball effectively as they recorded a team high 22 assists and shot 37.8 percent from the floor.

Gates and Vasquez were the main source of offense for the second-consecutive night as they both flushed 17 total points. Vasquez dished out seven assists and pocketed three steals, while Gates earned a double-double with 10 boards and matched Vasquez's assist total.

Freshman Alyssa Serna performed well off the pine with 11 points and five rebounds. She also notched a pair of assists and recorded one steal. Freshman Le'Asia Gayle finished with seven points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers (2-0) will kick off their home schedule on Thursday, November 7 by hosting their Sixth Annual "Earn Our Stripes" Tournament against the Cerritos College Falcons at 7 p.m.
