Riverside City College opened Orange Empire Conference action with a tough test, taking on No. 3-ranked Orange Coast College on the road Wednesday night. The Tigers battled but couldn't hold off the Pirates in an 86-48 loss.
RCC moves to 6-11 on the year and 0-1 to start conference, while OCC improves to 13-4 overall and 1-0 in the OEC.
Skyy Simmons led the Tigers with 18 points, finishing 6-for-12 from the floor. Amia McKinney followed with 11 points (4-for-9), while Brianna Ruelas dished out nine assists.
Salote Patetefa snatched 12 rebounds for RCC, while Ruelas grabbed seven boards.
Riverside returns home to Wheelock Gym on Friday, hosting Fullerton College at 7 p.m.
