Riverside City College jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter of action and never looked back in a 58-39 victory over West Los Angeles College Thursday night.
The Tigers, who shot at an impressive 51.1 percent from the floor, improve to 4-5 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 0-5 on the year.
Cheyenne Thomas led RCC with 13 points (5-for-10) and grabbed 16 rebounds for her first double-double of the year. Kylah Guillory was right on the cusp with nine points (4-for-7), while Nia Henry chipped in eight points (4-for-4) in just four minutes of action. Brianna Ruelas also snagged 10 boards for the Tigers, helping RCC dominate the glass 58-31.
Guillory scored the first two buckets of the game to spark an 18-3 run for RCC in the opening 12 minutes. Henry capped the scoring spree with a put-back layup two minutes into the second quarter to give the Tigers a commanding lead.
West LA tried to limit Riverside late in the game, but the Tigers were on fire to close the game and shot 75 percent in the final 10 minutes of action. Thomas scored seven of her 13 points in the four quarter, including back-to-back layups to help seal the 58-39 victory.
The Tigers take a little break before returning to action on Dec. 4 at the Santa Ana Tournament.
