Women’s Basketball Set to Host Antelope Valley in CCCAA Southern Regional Round One

After completing the regular season five games over .500 and placing fourth in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC), the Riverside City College women's basketball team has reached the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern Regional playoffs. The Tigers have earned the 16th seed and will play host to the No. 17 seeded Antelope Valley College Maurders on Wednesday, February 26 at 7 p.m.

Per CCCAA rules and regulations, there will be a cost for admission to the game. General admission tickets will be sold for $12, while all faculty, staff, students, fans over 60 years old, and children under 12 years old will be charged $8. There will be a $5 charge for parking and passes are available at the parking kiosks located in parking lot "k" and "e". Click here to view the RCC Athletics campus map.

The contest will be live streamed on Riverside Athletics YouTube Channel. Click here for the link.

After a brief hiatus from postseason play, the Tiger return to playoff action for the first time since 2018. They finished with an overall record of 15-10 encompassing a 7-5 conference clip. Riverside turned it on during the ladder half of conference play aiding a final playoff push. Despite falling to Santa Ana in early February, Riverside fed off crucial wins against No. 9 seeded Cypress and Fullerton.

Riverside and Antelope Valley faced off in early Novemrber at the Bakersfield Crossover in early November. In just their second game of the season, the Tigers cruised past the Maurders, 76-58, with three players landing in double-digit scoring. Riverside outshot Antelope Valley from the floor (37.8 percent) and three-point land (35.3 percent) while also out-rebounding them by a strong margin (62-49).

Leading the way for the Tigers is sophomore guard Trinity Vasquez.

Vasquez, the catalyst to the Tigers offensive success, has been an unstoppable force that one can only hope to limit. She is currently averaging 19.3 points-per-game and has landed in double digit scoring in 24 of the Tiger's 25 games this season. She has scored 20 or more points in 11 games this season and has scored 30 or more points in three games. The trio of 30+ point outbursts have come during three of Riverside's final four games of the year to prove she is playing her best ball so far. She finished her season by dropping a career-high 37 points in a commanding victory over Saddleback.

While she tallies an absurd amount of buckets per game, she is also efficient in involving her teammates. She is currently averaging 3.7 assists-per-game and has dished out at least one assist in every game she has played. She has served out seven assists on four separate occasions and has recorded four or more assists in 14 games. Furthermore, she is averaging 7.4 rebounds-per-game and has hauled in double-digit boards in four games granting her four double-doubles.

Joining Vasquez on the offensive front is freshman tandem Regenus Gates and Rebecca London.

Gates is currently averaging 12 points-per-game and is shooting an efficient 36.4 percent from the hardwood. She has racked up 15 double-digit scoring games. She has posted 21-point games twice on the season. London has come on strong during the ladder half of the year as five of her last six games have ended in 10 or more points. She is also averaging 6.3 rebounds-per-game.
