RCC Battles in Home Debut
Riverside City College scored first, but Southwestern College battled back and grabbed a 3-2, eight-inning victory Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers slip to 0-2 on the year, while the Jaguars improve to 2-2 overall.
Karly Romero and Carissa O'Neil each went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Romero scoring two runs and O'Neil batting in one. Giselle Flores Morales, Abigail Baldwin, and Ryli Wilson also had hits in the game.
RCC wasted little time to get on the board, plating one run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. With one runner on, Flores Morales blasted a double to center field, allowing Romero to score.
Southwestern answered back with a run in the top of the second, before neither team could send runners home for the next five innings to send the game into extra innings.
The Jaguars scored two runs off in the top of the eighth, putting pressure on the Tigers to score at least two in the bottom half of the frame to keep the game going. Back-to-back doubles from Romero and O'Neil cut the deficit to just one run, but Southwestern wouldn't let Riverside score anymore to secure the 3-2 result.
RCC is back home on Friday, hosting No. 5-ranked Long Beach City College at 1 p.m.
