Hawks Swoop in On Tigers
Riverside City College battled but ultimately fell 10-8 to Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers slip to 5-14 on the year and 0-4 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Hawks improve to 9-14 overall and 1-3 in conference.
RCC finished with 12 hits in the game, led by Aerin Anselmini's 4-for-4 performance at the plate. Madyson Aguilara and Alysha Kendrick went 3-for-4, while Karly Romero (1-for-3) and Ryli Wilson (1-for-4) also had hits for the Tigers.
It was back-and-forth action early on before Riverside jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth off four runs. Kendrick hit one of her two home runs of the day before RCC walked in a pair of runs and a sacrifice fly scored the fourth.
Santiago Canyon responded with two runs in the top of the sixth, but another home run from Kendrick – this time for two runs – kept the Tigers in front.
Things took a turn in the seventh, however, as the visitors scored six runs on five hits and two errors to take the lead, 10-8, and held on for the victory.
The Tigers and Hawks continue the three-game series at Santiago Canyon on Thursday, before returning to Riverside on Friday. Both games are set for 2 p.m. starts.
