Tigers Grab First OEC Win
Riverside City College picked up its first Orange Empire Conference win of the year with a 10-6 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 6-14 overall, 1-4 in the OEC, while the Hawks slip to 9-15 on the year and 1-4 in conference.
Madyson Aguilara went 3-for-5 (one RBI, one run) at the plate for the Tigers, who also saw 2-for-4 performances from Giselle Flores Morales (three RBIs, two runs) and Abigail Baldwin (three RBIs, one run).
Santiago Canyon jumped out to a 2-0 lead after its first chance at the plate, but Riverside answered right back with five runs in the top of the second. With no outs and runners at the corners, Baldwin drilled a double to left field, allowing both runners to come home.
Aguilara followed with an RBI single, before Alysha Kendrick took a rogue pitch to the body to drive in another run, and a Hawk error upped the visitors' lead to 5-2.
After the Hawks pulled within one, 5-4, in the third, once again the Tigers responded with another big inning, scoring four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 9-4 upper hand. Flores Morales got the scoring going with a two-RBI double before Ruby McDonald (1-for-3) sent in another two runners with a base hit up the middle.
The Tigers sealed the 10-6 victory with a run in the sixth as Baldwin blasted another RBI double.
Jasmine Lemus picked up the win in the circle for RCC, while Flores Morales grabbed a save.
Riverside and Santiago Canyon close out the series back in Riverside on Friday at 2 p.m., with the Tigers looking to win their first OEC series of the year.
