Riverside City College picked up its first win of the year in a big way, grabbing an 11-3, five-inning victory over Ventura College. The Tigers also fell 11-1 to Bakersfield College in five innings later that day.
RCC sits at 1-6 on the year, while the Pirates dropped to 1-7 overall and the Renegades moved to 4-4 overall.
Karly Romero (2-for-3), Giselle Flores Morales (2-for-4), and Abigail Baldwin (2-for-4) led the Tigers against the Pirates, while Alysha Kendrick (1-for-2), Ryli Wilson (1-for-3) and Carli Lewis (1-for-2) also had hits for RCC.
Riverside wasted little time and plated four runs in its first chance at the plate, taking an early 4-2 lead. Ventura took one back in the top of the third, before RCC answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Tigers broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth, putting the run-rule in play to end the game early.
RCC loaded the bases with no outs before O'Neil walked in a run, followed by a Morales grand slam to put Riverside up 10-3. Needing just one more run to end the game, the Tigers loaded the bases once again and a Pirate error scored the game-ending run, 11-3.
Morales picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one earned run.
Against the Renegades, four Tigers had hits: Romero (1-for-3), Carissa O'Neil (1-for-2), Alysha Kendrick (1-for-2) and Ryli Wilson (1-for-2). O'Neil scored the lone run for RCC.
Riverside returns home to host No. 2-ranked Palomar College on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
