Tigers Capitalize on Knight Errors
Riverside City College picked up its second win of the season, grabbing a 12-8 victory on the road at San Diego City College Thursday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 2-7 overall, while the Knights drop to 3-6 on the year.
RCC finished with 12 hits and committed no errors, while capitalizing on six errors from SD City.
Abigail Baldwin (2-for-5), Giselle Flores Morales (2-for-4), and Aerin Anselmini (2-for-3) led the Tigers with two hits each, while every other Tiger in the lineup also had a hit.
The Tigers got on the board first with four runs in the top of the first, but soon found themselves trailing 8-4 after two complete innings.
Things turned around in the fifth, however, as Riverside busted the game open and scored seven runs on three hits and four errors. With bases loaded and one out, an error and a walk sent the first two runs of the inning in before a fielder's choice RBI put RCC within one, 8-7.
With runners at the corners, O'Neil baited the throw down to second as she took off to steal the base, allowing Brooke Bishop to score the tying run and give O'Neil the green light to get to third safely. The sophomore outfielder then came home on a wild pitch to put Riverside in front.
Back-to-back hits from Alysha Kendrick (single) and Baldwin (double) put the Tigers back in scoring position, and an error on the next play plated them both.
Morales sealed the deal for Riverside in the top of the seventh with an RBI triple, before striking out the final batter in the bottom half of the inning to give RCC the 12-8 victory.
Weather permitting, Riverside is scheduled to take on Southwestern College on Tuesday on the road, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
