RCC Splits on Final Day of Home Tournament

After battling to a close, 14-11 loss early Saturday morning to No. 2-ranked Santa Barbara City College, No. 6-ranked Riverside City College got back on track with a 17-5 victory over Rio Hondo College.
The Tigers improve to 6-3 on the year, while the Vaqueros improve to 11-1 and the Roadrunners end the day at 1-7.
RCC found itself trailing 5-1 early against SBCC but climbed all the way back to tie the game at 8-8 halfway through the third quarter off an Isabella Stolpp goal. Santa Barbara scored two, but Stolpp kept it close with a goal just before time expired in the third.
Riverside tried to keep it close in the final period, but the Vaqueros held on for the 14-11 victory.
Stolpp finished with three goals and four assists, while Angelina Beall and Brooklyn Wagner also had three goals. Yosra Elseifi scored twice and grabbed seven steals.
In the nightcap, RCC saw a bunch of Tigers get in on the scoring action. Marianna Smith led Riverside with three goals, while Rylee Baldwin, Brianna Hoover, Natalia Jaime, Havyn Arganda, and Keira McDonald each scored twice. RCC also saw goals from Maribella Toyer, Audra Lacey, Sienna Gonzalez, and Lily Helberg.
Ella Sheldon posted seven saves in the cage to help the Tigers pick up the win.
Riverside remains at home to begin Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday, hosting Saddleback College at 4:15 p.m.
